The photo on the right is where The Beach Project started - on a family vacation in Puerto Rico.
The day before we were going home, everyone was tired and resting, so I ventured off. Driving along a small highway, I saw this beach entrance. I stopped, took a little backpack with me, and ventured in. I am not sure if a storm just hit, but the beach was littered with small pieces of plastic, lighters, Styrofoam, and plastic bottles; also some wildlife! I started cleaning up and in no time my little backpack was full.
At the time I worked in HR for a federal contractor and, although thankful, was dreading going back to work. Luckily for me, on this beach, I realized I could turn this little adventure and my love of the environment into a passion project, and eventually, a job.
We got home and within 2 weeks I had approval for all the government requirements needed for a nonprofit. A few weeks later, I left my job.
Nonprofits are not easy to run, but we are starting to show a real impact and I would never look back!
Thank you for your interest in our venture! Any and all support you are able to provide is appreciated, whether it is a donation or picking up a couple of pieces of trash next time you are outdoors!
